FRIDAY MEME WTF

Friday, September 16, 2011   FRIDAY MEME

Googling guinea pig clothing as the toys take over

1) On Twitter, I saw someone say they Googled "Google" the other day. That sounds like a really stupid Google search to me. What was the last thing you Googled?
Extreme Home Makeover...because they are building a house near my town this week.

2) What is something you should never say to a woman on her birthday?
"I hope I look as good as you when I get that old"  (I actually said that to my aunt).

3) While walking through PetSmart this week, I noticed clothing for guinea pigs. What is the most ridiculous thing you've seen recently in a store?
Holiday greetings sayings in poor English, scrawled onto Christmas Tree Shop decorations made by children in 3rd world countries.

4) One of the Food Network's popular shows is titled "Chopped." Chefs have to create meals from a basket of mystery items. If you were a contestant and got a basket with chicken breasts, Fruit Loops cereal, cheddar cheese, and vodka, what type of dish would you try to create?
I'd eat the fruit loops and drink the vodka, then order pizza.

5) If your favorite pair of shoes suddenly could talk, would you still wear them?
Yes....well they actually do talk. All my shoes speak to me.

6) The National Toy Hall of Fame has announced its finalists for induction this year (Dollhouse, Dungeons & Dragons, Hot Wheels, Jenga, Pogo Stick, Puppet, R/C Vehicles, Rubik’s Cube, Simon, Star Wars Action Figures, Transformers, and Twister). Only two will make it into the hall of fame. Which two would you induct?
The Pogo Stick and the Hot Wheels. Great cars for playing when I was a kid. I was a pogo stick champ in the neighborhood...could hop with no hands and one foot. Quite proud of that. lol

7) Speaking of toys, today (Sept. 16) is National Play Doh Day. Is there any toy from when you were a kid that you miss getting to play with?
My blocks and Lego.

8) Last toy question, I promise... Due to the federal government’s ban on the incandescent light bulb, Hasbro's Easy Bake Oven had to be remodeled. Did you ever eat food cooked in an Easy Bake Oven?
I loved those little round cakes and tacky frosting packets. I only made cakes in my oven. It fascinated me how it cooked. I still love baking.

Dipping your company gift in the fair's chocolate fountain  WTF MEME Questions:

1) I recently received a gift from my employer for making it through five years of employment. It was a stupid pin and keychain. What would you want your employer to give you for a five-year gift?
The honor of keeping my job.

2) The fall season of television is starting. What show are you excited to have return or what new show are you excited to make its first premiere?
Secret Circle looks interesting, though I suspect it will be another badly researched exploitation of Wicca folks.

3) One of my favorite restaurants recently added a chocolate fountain. What would be your favorite thing to dip into the chocolate?
Some terrific cookie...or Bud.

4) I've bought more things on eBay in the last couple months than ever before. What is the last thing you bought over the internet?
I got a SkinIt cover for my new phone. It's an indian design film you tape onto your phone to look designer...really cool.

5) If you come across a homeless person on a street, do you give him or her money?
Yes, always. There is a thin line between that person and me. I always feel people deserve to be validated. Nothing worse than being invisible, ignored...besides, begging for money is much harder work than my job.

6) If you knew you were about to die and had the opportunity to write your own obituary, what is something you'd want to make sure is included?
I bagged The Hunter.

7) State fair season is in full swing across the U.S. What is your favorite thing to do at a fair?
Anticipate going is sometimes better than going. I love looking at everything. It's a change of season thing too...especially The Big E...which is the true end of summer start of fall.

8) By some weird twist of fate, you wake up as another person one morning and must carry on with his or her life. What do you miss most about the person you were before?
Bagging the Hunter...and my disco past.

WTF MEME: Facebook and other things....

Dogs on surf boards join a Facebook status chain

1) Last week women on Facebook started another one of those supposed "raise breast cancer awareness" status chains which end up just confusing men. This one had me saying "I'm 14 weeks and craving Skittles." Instantly people started asking me if I was pregnant. This has angered some people (including a blogger who posted a rant about it because she says that "pretending you're pregnant isn't cute"). What do you think of status chains like this?
I put them in the same category as the stoopid games where people collect items for their virtual farms.  FB has many positive attributes and I love it. I ignore the chain letter type of posts. I have a few friends who do that kind of thing. I like them anyway.

2) Do you think people should be able to buy music and share it with everyone he or she wants or should everyone have to purchase the songs themselves?
Music is universal love. Sharing it should never be illegal.

3) How often do you (or your significant other) vacuum your house?
I have a spider problem, so vacuum almost daily. Bud does not vacuum his place...he has a maid.

4) Monday was National Cheese Pizza Day. What toppings do you like on your pizza?
Sorry I missed it. I like green pepper, hamburger and extra cheese. I love a nice crust too.

5) The Thought Catalog has posted a list of great songs to cry to. What is a song that can easily bring you to tears?
That dammm xmas song about the kid buying shoes for his dying mother.

6) Beanie babies were a big craze in the 1990s. What is a toy that you collect or used to collect?
I had a fabulous collection of marble and I also loved plastic dinosaurs....they used to sell a bunch of them in a big plastic bag.

7) Buddy, a 14-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, will be the first animal inducted into the Surf Dog Hall of Fame. Do you enjoy seeing animals do crazy stunts?
I get suspicious when a dog does an unusual trick. I see a semi-abusive owner making that dog do something that a dog would never do in the natural world. That goes for skateboarding bulldogs too.

8) September is Fall Hat Month. Do you like to wear hats? If so, what type of hats are your favorites?
I love hats. I also like wigs...guess they are like hats in a way. I wear them in every season except Spring.

SUNDAY STEALING meme: DONE LATE

Sunday, September 4, 2011The 20 Questions of Doom Meme

Sunday Stealing: The 20 Questions of Doom Meme

1. Do you believe in Heaven?
Not in the christian concept of heaven. I believe there is "holding ground" place right after death where our souls hang out. The new agers refer to this as The Summerland. Kind of a sanctuary bridge between mortal life on earth and the next level of "being". Spiritually, I believe in an afterlife, reincarnation. Heaven is within our own life, not a place we go to later.

2. Have you ever come close to dying?
I've always thought just before surgery that I might not wake up. I had a car crash in the 1970s that I saw in slow motion and I fell down the stairs at home once and thought that was "it", but nothing serious and I've always awakened after surgery with a bright new optimistic view.

3. What jewelery do you wear 24/7?
I used to wear a pentacle on a silver chain and have earrings on every day and a watch. I would probably wear a wedding ring 24/7 but I'm not a fan of jewelry to the degree I would wear it all the time, especially at night.

4. Would you ever consider having plastic surgery?
I am intrigued by the "Life Lift" and plan to do it for my 60th birthday.

5. What do you wear to bed?
Depends on whom I am with. If alone, I shoot for comfort. If with a man, I attempt a sexy functional frock.

6. Have you ever done anything illegal?
I won't admit to anything recent. In high school, some friends and I stole some street wood horse blocks with blinking lights at a construction area and blocked off a major road in another part of town.

7. Who was the last person that you touched?
A co-worker's shoulder who is going through a rough time now. Her step daughter is in a coma. Oh..."TOUCH"? ... ummm...that would be Bud.

8. Where did you eat last?
Had my coffee and oatmeal on the sofa.

9. Besides your own blog, are there any that you routinely read but never comment on?
I comment once in awhile. I read Bud's but rarely comment on it.

10. Ever been involved with the police?
I dated 2 of them...oh...ummm you mean like getting a speeding ticket? Ya...

11. Do you talk in your sleep?
I mumble and groan.

12. Now a celebrity fantasy. Who would you take on a ménage à trois for a dirty weekend?
Kiefer Sutherland and/or Brendan Fraser

13. Do you feel that you’ve had a truly successful life?
In many ways, yes, but I have not finished my bucket list yet.

14. Where do you wish you were?
In late winter/early spring...England. In autumn...right here in New England.

15. Have you ever ridden in an ambulance?
Yes, most recently with a friend who had a gran mal seizure (epiliepsy) and I sat in front with the driver, terrified of the fast driving. I asked the driver to slow down. I'd also been a passenger-patient once when I had a panic attack and my mother thought I was having a heart attack and called 911.

16. Is there any type of dancing that you love to do?
Disco will always have my heart, but I enjoyed the early 80s moves too.

17. Last gift you received?
Bud bought me some booze.

18. Last sport you played?
I think that came after Bud bought me some booze...

19. Last place you went on holiday?
On holiday? What country IS this? Ummm...well vacation? Gee, I think it was last January with Bud at his daughter's house in Jersey.

20. Current Song?
That varies hourly. I get a kick out of that Katy Perry thing "Friday Night"...

Monday Mayhem Meme: Labor Day Stuff

Welcome to Monday Mayhem.

Harriet has created today's edition, which is all about Labor.

1. In your opinion, what does Labor Day mean to you?
A day off from work. A welcome September long weekend. I didn't always have it off in some of the jobs I've had in the past, but I did this year. : )

2. How much was the minimum wage when you got your first job?
In the 1970s....still seems like yesterday, but my wage was $2.01 per hour and I was happy to get it.

 3. What was your first job- as in real actual employee- job?
I was working at 15 1/2 at a movie theater as the "Popcorn Girl". I was thrilled with my paycheck every week. I was still in high school, so all the money was spent on fun stuff.

4.What was the best job that you ever had?
When I was a bartender at a chic champagne-caviar bar in Los Angeles in the 1980s.

 5. What was the worst job that you ever had?
There are a lot of contenders for this. Probably as an insurance claim agent for a company that did clean ups after violent acts and fires/floods...tedious detailed work and dishonest padding of amounts. I hated my boss most of all.

6. Describe your dream job.
Drummer in a rock band.

7. Who has the best job ever?
Someone who loves what they are doing.

8. How do you usually celebrate Labor Day (or whatever holiday your location may have that is devoted to workers)?
I shop sales, vegge out at home or go to the county fair in New England somewhere...depends on the weather.
