Sunday, August 28, 2011

Welcome to Monday Mayhem. Today Harriet is focusing on crummy weather.

1. What city, in your opinion, has the crummiest weather?
Any hot tropical place. I absolutely hate hot humid weather.

 2. What kind of weather is the crummiest weather that your current home experiences?

 4. What is the crummiest weather event that you have personally ever experienced?
A downpour of rain in Florida that caused a flash flood when I was driving. I was terrified as the water table rose above the rim of the car floor and my car was stalled and I was trapped for over an hour unable to drive away and too scared to step into the rushing water. We did not have cell phones then, so I had to call out for help from the car window.

I'll take the snow.

 6. What kind of weather keeps you indoors?
Hot and humid. Blech.

 8. If you were the official ruler of all weather, what kind of weather would you make happen?
Spring or Fall weather in New England.

 9. What kinds of weather do you dread?
Severe...

 10. What's your weather like today?
Hurricane Irene. It missed my part of the state outside of strong wind and a little rain, but really affected other parts and over 11 people died from storm issues today up the eastern US coastline. That is truly sad and tragic. I'm so sorry for them and their families and friends and for the people who have to deal with the terrible flooding and power outages.

SUNDAY STEALING MEME: FOR CLYDE

Sunday Stealing: The 31 Meme, Part Two: In Memory to Clyde

16. What's the longest shift that you worked at a job?
I worked a lot of double shifts when I was a slot attendant at FOXWOODS CASINO in CT. What a miserable job...made worse by the fact that casino workers are not allowed to gamble in  the casino. I love playing slots and it killed me to see other people playing machines I would enjoy myself. I hated the vibe in there, the ringing, the stress, the white-green faces of losing people, and the nastiness of the public.

17. What was the last concert that you attended?
SO LONG DAVEY! was the last band I saw play live. The guitar guy and songwriter is Bud's youngest son, James and the band was smokin hot! Here's a link to one of their cool songs:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9eA3XU394M
A couple weeks prior to them, I attended The HAPPY TOGETHER TOUR concert which was a 1960s music fan's dream! The Buckinghams, Grassroots, Association, Turtles and Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere & Raiders. I howled along to every song. The band's all still retained talent, tho most are now in their 60s and there were some mild vocals issues...great to see them all.

18. What the last DVD (or Blu Ray, of course) movie that you watched?
Bud and I watched CASABLANCA last night...for me it was the first (and last) time. It's Bud's favorite movie.

19. How did you like the film?
I was restless and bored and not attracted to Humphrey Bogart and not interested in the politics of it. Glad I got that over with. Nice to share time with Bud anyway.

20. What comedian do you love?
I love many, from all eras of comedy. Mr. Black reigns now as a personal fav.

21. Do you ever sleep in the nude?
HAHAHAHA

22. Have you ever had a long distance relationship?
Somewhat of one now...

23. What do you think of astrology?
I'm confused about this new sign they discovered and how it changed everyone's birthsign date. I used to believe in the characteristics of each sign and saw them in any person who told me their sign. I am a true Pisces. Bud  is definitely a Scorpio.

24. What's you're favorite lyric quote from a song?
"All you know is all there is"  from an old DEVO song. There are so many good lines from songs...a crime to narrow it down to only a fav one.

25. Tell us something random about yourself.
I changed my first and last names in real life to fictional character names and had to go to probate court and paid $160 to do it..Kathryn is for Kathryn Janeway of Star Trek and Collins is for the Dark Shadows family.

26. Have ever attended a theme party? If yes, do tell.
I was a bartender at a trendy Venice Beach California restaurant-bar that had a "tranny" night and I dressed as a man and won first place. I had to dance with the male winner dressed as a woman to the whole room clapping time to nu wave music. It was the 1980s, dude, I am SO SHURE.

27. What is your favorite thing about winter?
Wearing cover up clothes and stylish boots. Good hearty meals and holiday cookies.

28. What was the name of your first pet?
Joe the goldfish. Freddy joined him...named for two of the members of Paul Revere & the Raiders. To this day I hate seafood and that low tide smell.

29. What have you done so far this weekend?
Umm...well I was with Bud last night. Did some shopping and ordered a new phone. Cleaned and hung some art on the walls. Watched part of my 1260 episode set of DARK SHADOWS...and the day is still young!

30. Has your humor ever been called “sick”?
Ohhhh yaaaa....but not so much lately. I'm all growed up and respectable now.

31. If you could have one thing, what would it be?
Contentment.

SATURDAY 9 MEME: My Best Friend's Girl

Saturday 9: My Best Friend's Girl

1. Have you and a friend ever have an argument because you were attracted to the same person?
My friends and I have totally different taste in men, so this never came up. I have had issues when my friend didn't like HIS friend on a double date-meeting and didn't want to end my date because she hated hers.

2. Who never returns your phone calls?
I work as an accounts payable/receivable bookkeeper and when I call vendors to inquire about payment, they rarely call back.

3. What was your favorite childhood toy?
A big ole stuffed dalmation named Snoopy. I loved the life out of that dawg and it now resides on my diningroom floor awaiting it's final photo shoot before I send it to toy heaven.

4. Who is the last person you greeted at your door?
Bud, but he was not at the door. He called me on my cell phone all the way from my porch swing to come out and get him.

5. Would you change anything about your life right now?
Umm..what category? Relationship....no, I have Bud back. Physically...weight namely muffin top needs to dismiss itself from my person, work-financially...need to learn more about my duties so I make less errors.

6. Who is the easiest person for you to talk to?
Myself.

7. If you could live in any ancient city during the height of the quality of its society and culture, which one would you choose?
I adored Greek Mythology and Egyptian stories...a toss mup between the two. In school, I was fascinated by the Aztec Mayan culture, but I'd never want to live with them. Yikes.
8. What is the most exciting event you’ve ever witnessed?
Not to be a bummer, but my mother's death was incredible to witness happening.

9. What do you consider the ideal age to have a first child?
For me...never will be a good age. For others...babies come when they need to be born. I believe physically, that women should breed before 34 or their stale eggs will risk birthing a higher percentage of autistic-malformed-uber-sensitive type of offspring.

TATTOOING BODIES AND PLAYING IN THE SAND

THIS IS A MEME CALLED WTF (WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY)...

Nah...texting is not that big a part of my life.

As long as they love their pets, I don't care.

3) Do you have a "junk" drawer in your home? What types of items are stuffed in there? (Feel free to share a photo of the contents if you want.)
I have several junk drawers...all full of tools, memorabillia, nails, tape, matches...and junk boxes of paper trail from myself and my family.

I just bought a light seafoam green metallic car which I love dearly. Never would own a pink car. Ick. Mary Kay on drugs?

I would not be at the beach. I hate beaches and I don't play in the sand. I'd rather be making mp4's out of old CDs.

8) If a company offered to pay you $100,000 to get an advertisement for its product tattooed on your body, would you do it?
Well, maybe "BUD", lol.

9) You're a kid again at a party with a pinata. What type of candy do you hope pops out of the pinata after you hit it?
I love Belgian chocolate truffles. I like Walnettos too.

10) If someone wanted to win your heart, what would he/she need to do?
He already has.

Monday Mayhem- the going on vacation meme

SUNDAY, AUGUST 7, 2011

Welcome again to Monday Mayhem.

Today we are going to roast going on vacation.

Have fun!

1. If you were to go on a vacation next week, where would you go to?
England. I’d bring Bud to tour the pubs with. It’s beautiful there in summer.

2. What was your favorite childhood vacation memory?
They were always the same…down 95 to Florida to visit my grandmother in St Pete/Tampa area. I always enjoyed it when the motel had a pool and a swingset. I loved Morrisons Cafeterias…a chain of buffet style restaurants. It was the first time I could pick out exactly what I wanted to eat.

3. Would you or have you ever been on a vacation without your significant other?
I could, but I’d prefer him to be with me.

4. What is your worst vacation memory?
When it was late and my parents and I were exhausted and we were trying to find a cheap motel in North Carolina. I was about 12. My father would not stay in a motel owned by anyone but a white person, so we suffered for an hour in the search and wound up in a flea infested dive and I remember thinking what a couple of jerks I was stuck with for the week.

5. Who would you love to take on vacation with you and where would you go?
Bud. ... and now that I’m thinking about England…probably London.

6. What is the biggest waste of money vacation you have ever heard of?
A sporting event such as the super bowl, or anywhere just to sit on a beach. I cannot think of anything more time wasting then laying out in the sun.

7. Who really needs a vacation?
We all do!

8. Have you ever done something on a vacation that would hope nobody would ever hear about?
Not yet, but I’ll work on it!

CURIOUS AS A CAT MEME WEEK 283

Week Number 283

1) Create a new human culture and describe it as thoroughly as possible. Be sure to describe appearance, values, beliefs, etc.
I’m thinking of the episode of Twilight Zone where those pig people thought Ellie Mae and that handsome guy were disgustingly ugly and tried surgery to change their faces. When it failed, they put them into a colony to live together, but apart from the normal people. I’d do this with DJs instead of pretty people and have them all talk about blue vinyl and B sides in their own little colony. There would be music 24/7 and heated debates over genre preferences. I’d be in that colony. So would Bud.

2) Which animal makes the best pets? Defend why this is clearly the greatest option.
Dawgs are the best. I cannot imagine a different pet. Just dawgs.

3) What was the last thing you broke that you’re really upset about?
Someone’s heart.

4) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

It reminds me of Nottingham England when I visited there in ’86. There was a medieval band playing outside and I sat in the grass drinking woodpecker hard cider enjoying the moment, the band, the country. I love England so much. After living there 3 years, I still get a tear in my eye whenever I see films or news footage with English towns in it. I'm homesick, but not to live there again...just visit.
