ROCK n ROLL FRIDAY meme: Hits of the '50s

Today we picked Hits of the 50s

1. Rock Around The Clock - Bill Haley & His Comets
“Put your glad rags on and join me hon', We'll have some fun when the clock strikes one. We're gonna rock around the clock tonight, We're gonna rock, rock, rock till broad daylight.”
What artist was the last live concert you went to see?
Mark Lindsay from Paul Revere & The Raiders. It was a great show and he is still hot!

2. Tutti-Frutti - Little Richard
“Got a girl named Sue. She knows just what to do. She rocks to the East, she rocks to the West, But she’s the girl that I know best!”
If you had to live on the East Coast or the West Coast, which would you chose?
I have lived on both coasts. While I love northern California, I still prefer New England and so choose the East Coast.

3. Summertime Blues - Eddie Cochran
“I'm gonna take my problem to the United Nations, Well I called my congressman and he said Quote: "I'd like to help you son but you're too young to vote"”
Have you decided who to elect for the Senate in your local elections?
I hate Blumenthal and McMahon both...may have to vote for a 3rd party candidate like Rainbow or Green.

4. Great Balls Of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis
“I chew my nails and then I twiddle my thumbs, I'm real nervous, but it sure is fun, C´mon baby, you're drivin' my crazy”
When was the last time you chewed your nails and twiddled your thumbs?
During a job interview where they had me sit at a very complex switchboard spur of the moment and take a call and transfer it.

5. Earth Angel – Penguins
“I fell for you and I knew, The vision of your loveliness, I hope and pray. I'll be the vision of your happiness”
Did you fall in love quickly with your significant other?
Not as quickly as he did.

6. Roll Over Beethoven - Chuck Berry
“Hey diddle diddle, I am playin' my fiddle, ain't got nothin' to lose
Roll Over Beethoven and tell Tschaikowsky the news”
What is your favorite classical music selection?
Pacabel's Canon. I had it played at my wedding and I will have it played at my funeral.

7. Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino
“I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill”
Where did you find YOUR thrill?
At the Dialtone Disco Dome in the 1970s. London, England in the 1980s. On the radio in the 1990s. In Massachusetts in the 2000s. At Bud's place this decade.

 8. The Great Pretender – Platters
“Oh yes, I'm the great pretender, Pretending I'm doing well, My need is such I pretend too much, I'm lonely but no one can tell”
Do you pretend that everything is fine when on the phone with your family /friends so not to reveal your true situation if it is not so rosy?
Yes, unless I really need their help with something. They think I always have control of my life.

 9. Charlie Brown – Coasters
“Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown, He's a clown, that Charlie Brown”
Who is your favorite PEANUTS character and why?
Woodstock. He was such a happy and assertive fellow.

10. Poison Ivy – Coasters
“Measles make you bumpy and mumps’ll make you lumpy, And chicken pox’ll make you jump and twitch, A common cold’ll cool you but whooping cough’ll fool you, But poison ivy’s gonna make you itch”
Do you have any allergies? If not, did you get a Flu shot this year?
In Spring and Fall I get stuffed up when outside. I don't take meds, but sometimes will take an allergy pill then and only then. No flu shots for me. Of course, that being said, I have been suffering over a week now with a terrible flu.

 11. Love Potion No. 9 – Clovers
“She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink,
She said "I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink". It smelled like turpentine, it looked like Indian ink. I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink”
What is the worst thing you ever drank?
It was probably a micro-brew specialty beer...skunky.

12. Get A Job – Silhouettes
“After breakfast, everyday, she throws the want ads right my way, And never fails to say, Get a job Sha na na na, sha na na na na”
Have you ever been unemployed? If so, how did you find a job?
I recently became unemployed and have been using about 8 search tools and applying online to about 10 jobs a day. There are so many scams out there on CraigsList. It is heartbreaking that criminals will try to take advantage of unemployed people applying for a job by asking them to get a credit report on a special site or sign up for fake schooling, or be a 3rd party to bad international money orders.

13. Sixteen Candles – Crests
“You're only sixteen (sixteen) But you're my teenage queen (you're my queen). You're the prettiest, loveliest girl I've ever seen”
How did you celebrate your 16th birthday?
I had a dreamy first date with a guy I'd had a crush on for months. Skip was his name. I went over to his house for dinner. His mother made marinated pot roast and was shocked to learn it was my birthday. There was no cake there, but I got a nice kiss from Skip and I remember totally swooning over it. We played the board game of LIFE  and I cannot remember having so much fun on a first date. Back home later, my mother had baked me a cake and we shared it with coca colas, while I told her of my wonderful evening. Good times.

  3. #12 yeah, tell me about it. Especially all those 'work from home' ones. Kind of defeats the purpose of job hunting if you have to pay for the job. Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. You still have the Flu?!?! Ick! I do hope you get better soon, Kathy. That can't be fun. Such a sweet birthday story! BTW--the worst think I ever drank is the substance I had to finish before I was tested for Diabetes. Ick squared. Great meme, as always. Feel better soon!
